Due to
the generosity of Dr. Gordon Hobson, the Board of Directors of the
Orchestra was able, during the 2007-2008 season, to institute a bursary, to be
awarded at the discretion of the Board, to a young musician who joined
the orchestra and contributed to its continued growth and success. The
bursary money is intended to be used to further the recipient's music
studies.
The recipient of the Bursary for
Promising Young Performers for the 2011-2012 season was Julia Hostetler. Julia is Principal Second Violin.
Joint recipients of the Bursary for
Promising Young Performers for the 2010-2011 season were Julia Hostetler and Emily Prager. They shared the role of Principal Second Violin.

For the 2009-2010 Season, we had 5 bursary recipients: Robert Dukarm, violin, Rachel Elliott, violin, Zachary Taylor, cello, Katrina Gong, violin, and Julia Wakal, trumpet.

During our Silver Anniversary Season (2008-2009) the bursary fund was expanded due to the generosity of several additional donors so that we were able to award 2 more bursaries. Certificates and cheques were presented February 8, 2009 to Justin Worthington, trumpet, and Catheryn Kennedy, viola.

The first recipient (2007-2008) of the Bursary for Promising Young Performers was Katrina
Gong. Katrina was Principal Second Violin.
If you are 25 or younger, we encourage you to apply.
Future
bursaries may be available for any chair in the orchestra (strings,
winds, brass or percussion), and not necessarily for a principal
position.
To apply, please provide the following information either by email to the orchestra's president and put "Bursary" in the Subject line, or by regular mail to the address on the Home page, adding "attention — bursary" on the envelope:
Tax-deductible
donations to enable the orchestra to continue this bursary program will
be gratefully received.
